The Blue Exorcist is a manga by Kazue Kato. It was a one shot manga which became a success and made into an anime. The first Manga was released in 2008 and the anime started on April 17, 2011. It’s a supernatural action anime, so you can expect the usual battles and story plot throughout the series. As of now the anime has twenty two episodes and they are making two more. Let discuss the first episode.

Ao no Exorcist

We began with a church where many of the members of the church are scared and burning into blue flames. Before the leader of the church dies he says the word, demons. We then turn to a playground where a guy gets punched and we meet our main character Rin Okumura. The title blazes in and we now see Rin in a confession both lying about where he was, he’s then told by his guardian and brother about his responsibilities. When a girl comes asking for help about a demon teasing her, the reverend assures her that he’ll fix the problem.  After his brother heals his wounds he goes out find another job at a grocery mart, where he learn he’s good at cooking. Rin also finds the demon that had been troubling the girl in the grocery and chases after it. After an accident with the demon knocking of cans of beer and Rin saving a little girl, he gets fired for running around the store and having people think he’s crazy. When he return’s to the abbey in which he lives, he find that the little girl is there waiting to thank him. His guardian states that he is not allowed to leave the abbey after that night as punishment for breaking the goods in the grocery.
When he wakes up the next morning, he finds that his brother has gone off to a boarding high school and little squeaking demon and fling through the air. Nobody else seems to notice or feel them. The people he came across in the beginning of the episode find him and tell him they want to talk. The try to blackmail for money, but Rin fights back. The leader, who has had little flying demons around him transforms in front of him and attacks his own group. Rin yells and pushes the people holding him down back and gets covered in blue flames. The group flees except for the leader who says the blue flames are the signs of Satan, and that Lord Satan is waiting for him. The reverend find him and easily perishes the demon from the leader’s body and explains what’s going on. He says that Rin will now be hunted to be brought back to Satan. He too admits that he is Satan’s child, thus having Rin believe it himself. Then that’s the end of the first episode.

Ao no Exorcist

The episodes continue to go through and explain the story but there do seem to be a few filler and character development episodes along the way. However, if you enjoy a bit of action, supernatural, and comedic themes, then I see no reason you wouldn’t like this show. It does go into a lot of christen themes as well, so if your offended by the way the portray things I am sorry. All an all, the show would be an 8 out of 10 on my scale. If the show contuse the way it has, I believe there could be potential but it hasn’t show much yet.
